As I was driving James to preschool earlier this week, we passed a house with an art desk sitting at the curb. I hesitated a moment to decide if I should pull over and look at it or not. I'm kind of glad that my kids have outgrown the need for large plastic toys but I thought that maybe I could clean it up and give it away if we didn't use it. I pulled over and was amazed to find the desk in great condition. The dry erase board was dirty, but I was sure that was a quick fix. After hauling it home and a quick wash with bleach wipes the thing is in mint condition! The kids were so excited to organize it with their markers and paper. Stay tuned for pics of their masterpieces :)

This is from my fortune cookie earlier this week. I've been thinking about it quite a bit. Not that I put much faith in what these silly slips of paper say, but because I feel like I've been in a bit of a rut lately and would like to take more "chances." I'm not yet sure what this will mean for me...

Addiction to sugar. Is it a real thing? For me, I think it is. A couple of weeks ago, we made the mistake of taking the kids with us to Costco. I try to avoid taking anyone with me to a grocery store because I have a hard time saying no when they beg/meltdown and ask for treats. We ended up with a 5.5 lb tub of licorice, beef jerky, and various other treats. When I'm at home I have a terrible time staying away from candy and treats. Last week I challenged myself for go 7 full days without candy or dessert. I really didn't think this was something I could stick with, but I wanted to try.
The first 4 days were the hardest and I thought about caving in a lot. Candy was constantly on my mind. By days 6 and 7 it got easier. Now, I didn't go a week without sugar, just no candy. I found substitutions when I had a sugar craving. I had yogurt with granola most evenings for my dessert and also ate alot of dried fruit. So, I've learned that I can control my cravings and it's probably best to just not have all the temping junk food in the house. I've gone back to eating candy but am also keeping alot of fresh fruit around for when I want a more natural form of sugar.
